Q: Do I need to call my insurance company and get approval before you start drying and remove affected materials?

A: Your insurance company expects you to be pro-active in precluding any secondary damage like mold. Drying should be started as soon as possible.

Q: Do I have to use my insurance company’s preferred vendor?

A: Insurance law allows a consumer the right to choose any certified firm for services rendered. Black Label Restoration and Cleaning prides itself on working with your insurance company to allow for the shortest, least invasive process possible with your loss.

Q: How do you establish pricing guidelines, and are they fair and accepted in the insurance industry? 

A: Black Label Restoration and Cleaning uses Xactimate, the same estimating price list that's used by most insurance companies.

Q: Do you restore damaged personal property?

A: Yes, clothing, upholstered, wood furniture, documents, window coverings, and more are handled and restored by our Personal Property Division. 

Water:
Q: Why can’t I let wet carpets, tiles, walls, and ceiling dry on their own?

A: The only way to properly dry wet materials and contents is to use air movers and dehumidifiers. You need to dry the building materials as quickly as possible to minimize the chances of mold or mildew development. If you allow building materials and contents to dry naturally, it increases the chances of mold and mildew growth. 

Q: Should I be concerned if my items are soaked by gray or black water i.e. toilet or sewer backup?

A: Yes, bacteria-ridden water from these sources may pose a significant risk to your health, especially if ingested. All porous items that have been saturated should be discarded.

Fire and Smoke:
Q: Is it safe to stay in the house?

A: Call Black Label Restoration and Cleaning to inspect and recommend the proper course of action. Smoke and soot contain carbon which is extremely damaging when inhaled; avoid visits inside your home without appropriate safety measures.

Mold and Mildew:
Q: Is it dangerous if my property has visible mold?

A: Black Label Restoration and Cleaning will inspect your property and recommend the proper course of action. You should not use bleach to clean the room or switch on the fan to dry your place. A moldy indoor environment may cause adverse health effects to occupants who are exposed over a long period of time.

Q: What do I do if I smell mildew?

A: Let Black Label Restoration and Cleaning inspect and recommend the proper course of action. Our certified staff has the experience and training to locate and identify the source of the problem.

Builds:
Q: Can you handle the repairs too?

A: Yes, Black Label Restoration and Cleaning handles structural and content drying as well as repairs and restoration. These services include but are not limited to drywall repair, carpentry, carpets, tiles, wood, flooring, paint, etc. We are a full-service company.

Q: Do you handle additional work (repairs, renovations, upgrades) that's not covered in the claim?

A: Yes, any additional work requested will be estimated and will often be more affordable because our workers are already available on site. 

Things to remember:
Safety:
  • Do not switch on the electricity until your property has been inspected by a professional
  • Never plug in damaged electric equipment
  • Don’t use any canned or packaged food and beverages that may have been stored near the fire, heat or water
Minimize secondary damage:
  • Don't attempt to wash smoke or fire residue from walls and other absorbent surfaces
  • Don't shampoo carpets or upholstery as this can cause further damage
  • Limit your movement in the home to prevent soot particles from being embedded into upholstery and carpets
  • Keep your hands clean and wear plastic gloves to avoid spoiling the upholstery, walls, and woodwork
  • Place clean towels or clean linens on rugs, upholstery and carpet traffic areas
  • Don't attempt to clean electrical appliances that may have been close to a fire, heat or water without consulting an authorized repair service
  • If electricity is switched off, empty the freezer and refrigerator and keep the doors open
  • Wash both sides of the leaves of your houseplants
